TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Commerce is joining economic development agencies across the country in celebration of National Economic Development Week from May 7-12. During this week, the agency will highlight the vital services that economic development organizations offer and the impact they have on the Kansas economy.

National Economic Development Week (EDW) was started in 2016 to increase awareness of local programs that create jobs, advance career development opportunities and increase the quality of life. EDW is coordinated by the International Economic Development Council, the largest professional organization for economic development practitioners.

In Kansas, the Department of Commerce routinely partners with local economic development organizations to bring new companies to the state and help existing businesses grow and expand. In 2017, the agency successfully completed 145 projects that brought $2,210,832,982 in total capital, 13,128 new jobs and 10,875 retained jobs.

Throughout the week, the Department of Commerce will share information on programs and services available to businesses in Kansas or considering locating in Kansas: incentives, workforce development, export trade assistance, and site selection consulting, among others.
