Kansas Energy Conference will highlight renewable energy industry

The 2013 Kansas Energy Conference will be held Oct. 1-2 in Manhattan, highlighting the latest developments in the renewable energy industry. The day-and-half event will feature three general sessions and several breakout sessions focusing on different areas of the sector, including community and business renewable energy options, wind energy, transportation, education, agriculture, research and the integration of natural gas and renewable energies. Gov. Sam Brownback will open the conference.

Following the final breakout sessions on Oct. 2, attendees will have an opportunity to tour energy projects at Fort Riley, including energy equipment in place in the brigade headquarters building. Those interested in participating in the tour are asked to visit to register. Space on the tour is limited.

WHEN/WHERE: 8:45 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Oct. 1, and 9 a.m.-noon, Oct. 2 at the Hilton Garden Inn & Manhattan Conference Center, 410 S. Third St., Manhattan, Kan. 66502. Exhibits are open 10 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Oct. 1, and 8:30 a.m.-noon, Oct. 2. A reception is planned from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Oct. 1.

SPEAKER INFORMATION: A complete list of speakers and workshops is available through Department’s website at General session speakers include:

• 9-10 a.m., Oct. 1 – J. Neil Copeland, director, Management Consulting Division, Black & Veatch, has more than 16 years of experience in preparing energy asset revenue forecasts, providing detailed assessments of market fundamentals, managing data gathering and price forecasting databases, and performing asset valuations for various power plants.

• 3:30-4:30 p.m., Oct. 1 – Dennis Wierzbicki, president, Grundfos USA, has more than 25 years of hands-on business management experience, including profit/loss responsibility, international sales management, project management, strategic planning and business process redesign.

• 9-10 a.m., Oct. 2 – Judd Moritz, director, Utility Solutions, EnerNOC Inc., develops EnerNOC’s utility partnerships by helping utilities meet their demand-side management program needs.
