Support the arts this holiday season with an arts themed license plate

This holiday season, Kansans can give the gift of supporting the arts through the “Driving the Arts” license plate program. All revenue generated from the purchase of arts-themed Kansas license plates will directly fund grants to artists and arts organizations.

The “Driving the Arts” campaign is a program of the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission (KCAIC). The KCAIC is dedicated to promoting, supporting and expanding the creative industries to grow the state’s economy and generate creative industry-related jobs. To support this mission, the KCAIC offers several grant programs. These include the Creative Economy Project Support Program, the Strategic Investment Program and the Arts Integration Program.

“The arts stimulate economic growth, create jobs and contribute to a great quality of life for Kansans,” said KCAIC Chairman Lana Gordon. “The holiday season is a great time to support the arts organizations that do so much for our communities. The license plates are a unique way to demonstrate that support.”

The annual fee for each plate is $50, and 100 percent of the revenue generated from sales of the plate will be used by the KCAIC to fund arts programs in Kansas. The fee will not be charged until plates are ready for pickup at local county treasurer’s offices.

“The KCAIC has done a great job supporting arts organizations across our state,” Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George said. “The arts plate is a great option for arts supporters who want to help the KCAIC in its mission of supporting the growth of the creative industries in Kansas.”

The KCAIC has awarded $440,000 in grants to 22 organizations in 2013. Learn more about the KCAIC and its programs at
